Chase Karate Academy was founded by Grand Master Chris Chase in 1990. Master Chase holds a 9th degree black belt in Isshin Ryu Karate. In 1996 he was inducted into the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame, joining names like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. Master Chase studied and taught Isshin Ryu Karate in Japan before returning to the United States, where he has trained thousands of students over a span of 4 decades.
He also provided personal security, directly or by training bodyguards for many high profile stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Venessa Williams, Diane Sawyer, Reba McEntire, and Billy Joel. His titles include International Black Belts Weapons Championship, International Open Karat Kata Championship, and International Open Karate Fighting Championship. In its new Penfield location, Master Chase hopes to continue to passing on his wealth of knowledge and inspiring passion in the martial arts.
Master Chase was selected by Master Uezu to hold the responsibility of spreading the knowledge he has obtained through years of training. To carry out this duty he was appointed as the President of the Okinawan Isshin Ryu Karate & Kobudo Association. Chase Karate Academy is the International Headquarters of this association, and therefore we have an added responsibility to ensure that the karate that we teach remains true to the teachings of Grand Master Uezu. All of our classes are designed to be taught with the same principles and methods that Master Chase learned and taught.
Master Uezu was Master Shimabuku's number one student. When Master Shimabuku realized there was interest for Isshin Ryu outside the island of Okinawa, he sent Master Uezu around the world to teach his latest developments and generate more interest in Isshin Ryu. Master Uezu was the most influential person in Master Chase's training, and eventually appointed him as the President of the organization he created: the Okinawa Isshin Ryu Karate & Kobudo Association (O.I.K.K.A.).
